How to pay medical bills without credit cards

Since 2009, medical expenses have increased 33%, which has outpaced the increase in median household income over the past 10 years. This has led some New York residents to put their medical bills on credit cards. However, there are ways to avoid using credit cards and paying the high interest rates associated with them. For example, it may be possible to negotiate a payment plan with a doctor, hospital or other service provider.

Most health care providers will work with patients to help them pay their bills in a timely manner. In some cases, it may be possible to pay over time without paying any interest or other fees. Those who have health insurance may pay less for hospital visits or other services that they need. Employers pften offer insurance plans, and policies may also be available through state or federal government agencies.

Between 2013 and 2016, 66.5% of bankruptcies were related to medical expenses or not being able to work because of a medical condition. This was according to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health. It is important to note that a person could get hurt or sick at any point even if with no prior history of serious injuries or illnesses.

Individuals who are having trouble paying medical or other types of debts may benefit from filing for bankruptcy. In a bankruptcy proceeding, it may be possible to have debts eliminated in a matter of weeks or months. It may also be possible to reorganize current debt balances to make them easier to pay. Debtors may also benefit from an automatic stay of creditor contact that goes into effect when they file their petitions. This may put an end to constant phone calls or debt collection letters.
